Cuilcagh Sub Camp
Cuilcagh Sub Camp Leader - Francesca Fyfe
I have been involved with scouting from the age of 11 in 1st Lisnaskea Scout Group. I loved attending as a child so when I turned 18 the opportunity to become a leader became available and I jumped at the chance. I have been an active leader for over 2 years now. At the moment we have an extremely active group of 16 scouts, 32 beavers, 23 cubs and 13 explorers. We always ask advise them to get involved in all the award schemes like Duke of Edinburgh. Last year we had a group of them travel to Canada for their expedition. As a previous scout I was very fortunate that I got to attend various scout camps like the Punchestown Jamboree in 2008. This summer I got to attend Peak Camp as a leader. Throughout my time as a scout and leader I have completed various training such as first aid, child protection and hill walking. Peak Camp 2015 definitely has to be one of my main highlights because it was my first international camp as a leader and I can honestly say that it was one of the best weeks I have experienced.
Cuilcagh Sub Camp Assistant - Jordan Leinster
Hi my name is Jordan Leinster. I am a 17 year old Explorer Scout from Ballymena in County Antrim. I have been involved in Scouting for 11 years with 3rd Ballymena West Church. During my time in Scouting I like to think that I have been able to pack a life time of goals into 11 years but the truth is that I personally feel Scouting has helped me do so much more! This year I attended the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan as a Patrol Leader and Young Spokesperson for Unit 62, which I can say without a single doubt was one of the best experiences of my life. During my adventure I was given the honour of meeting 39 of Northern Ireland’s best scouts and one very famous Big Green Duck, Saffron. Apart from Japan I have also obtained my Bronze and Silver DOE, my Young Leader’s Award and had the pleasure of assisting with my Scout Group’s Beaver Colony, who I must say are great fun. I have enjoyed many camping weeks / weekends and have created lifelong friendships. Within the next year and a half I hope to have achieved both my Gold Duke of Edinburgh and Queen Scout Award. I attended the first ever NIJAM in 2013. I now also consider myself a Belfast Monopoly Run veteran! Therefore I will strive to ensure that the same values from NIJAM 2013 are upheld at NIJAM 2017. This is one of the main reasons why I believe that NIJAM 2017 will be a massive success and easily by far one of the best experiences of your Scouting life.
Cuilcagh Sub Camp Assistant - Calum McCloskey
I have been involved in scouting from a very young age and have enjoyed it ever since. I am part of 1st Muckamore scout group in Antrim and have worked my way through the sections and have recently become a Cub assistant leader and joined the scouting network. I have partaken in many camps over the year and my personal highlights where attending the World Scout jamboree in Japan, the Essex jamboree and also completing my Queen Scout expedition in Scotland. I hope this role can help my build new skills and leadership and also make NIjam 2017 a fantastic experience.
Slemish Sub Camp
Slemish Sub Camp Leader - Bronagh McAuley
I started my scouting life in St Joseph's Guide Unit Antrim where I was a member for over 10 years. At the 75th Catholic Guides of Ireland celebration camp at Northern Ireland Scout Centre Crawfordsburn, I was encouraged to join one of the warden's teams, at the tender age of 14. I’ve returned to the scout centre (to their delight) following my 8 year gap studying and working in Scotland and England. I joined 1st Findon Valley scout troop, West Sussex, in 2011 where we had great opportunities to go to jamborees in England, winter camps (in -10 temperatures) and Lord Amory Scout Project London (a personal favourite of mine)! Being a scout leader in the south coast of England gave me a great chance to meet new people, settle in well and feel properly at home. Now living back in Northern Ireland I’ve become an assistant scout leader at 5th Antrim All Saints, a recently formed group. We're working really hard at growing and developing our scouters and different sections. I’m really looking forward and feel privileged to be the sub camp leader for Slemish at NIjam 2017! :)
Slemish Sub Camp Assistant - Adam Meikle
I’m Adam, I’m 20 and I’m from a small village near Coleraine. I started Scouting like many people when I joined the Beaver Section in 1st Castlerock Scout Group. I progressed through the Cub, Scout and Explorer Sections and achieved my Silver, Gold and Platinum Chief Scout Awards and completed my Queen’s Scout Award. From the age of 13 I volunteered with the Cub Section at first to get my community challenge badge in Scouts and then I progressed to become a Young Leader and achieve my Young Leader Belt. Then when I became 18 I chose to join the Cub Section as an Assistant Cub Scout Leader. During my time as a Young Leader and Adult Leader I have led activities for Cubs at Group, District, County and Northern Ireland Level. With regards to where I have been with Scouts, I have had the pleasure of going to Canada to help young people complete their Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions, visiting Germany (twice), visiting Switzerland, travelling to various parts of Ireland and the UK including visiting London during the Olympics in 2012, Glasgow during the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and going to the Irish Jamboree in Punchestown in 2008. More recently I have achieved my Explorer Belt in Germany and been Skydiving and Parachuting. I also had the opportunity to represent Northern Ireland at Youshape 2015, hold a discussion base at the 4U event in Crawfordsburn in Easter 2015 and am now on the planning team who are organising and running the residential Youshape event in 2016. Along with all of this I am the District Youth Representative for Coleraine, a Youth Representative on the Programme and Development Committee and a member of the Queen’s Scout Network in Belfast. I worked as Work and Play at the last NIJAM and made many great long lasting friendships.
Slemish Sub Camp Assistant - Joe McCormack
I have been involved in Scouts since the age of three, when I joined 6th Ards Squirrels. Since then I have made my way up through all sections of Scouting and I am currently a member of Movilla Explorers as well as being a Young Leader for Sixth Ards Sea Scouts. I have been involved with the Scouts as a Young Leader for two years now and still enjoy the feeling of responsibility that you get with it. At the moment I am working towards my Queen Scout Award as well as my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. I have previously achieved the Chief Scout’s Diamond Award and my Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. My highlight in Scouting occurred just recently: I was one of the 36 Scouts selected to represent Northern Ireland at the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan held in July-August 2015. Those three weeks in Japan were life-changing.
Sawel Sub Camp
Sawel Sub Camp Leader - Oliva Mickelson
I am currently a leader with 2nd Donaghadee Scout troop and have come up through the group since I was little. I have been lucky to participate in lots of international scouting from attending the World Scout Jamboree in Thailand and working for the Boys Scouts of America for a couple of years as well as attending summer camps around the UK.. I love what scouting has to offer to young people and the adults who volunteer so I am really pleased to get to be a sub camp leader at NIJam in 2017 and experience the "big camp" at home showing what Northern Ireland Scouts can do! My favourite part of scouts is camping out with backwoods cooking on a campfire.
Sawel Sub Camp Assistant - Sean Francis
I have been involved in scouting since the age of 6. I was encouraged to become involved in scouting by my Dad and Grandad who both were keen Scouts themselves. I have been a Beaver, Cub and Scout in 2nd Donaghadee and loved every moment. I am now a member of the Copeland Explorer Unit which I thoroughly enjoy being a part of. Although my scouting life is a lot shorter than many, it has still given me many adventures and many friends. I have completed my Chief Scouts Gold, Platinum and nearly finished my Diamond. I hopefully will get the opportunity in the near future to do my Queens Scout Award which I have wanted to do since I was little, and finally my Explorer Belt. As a Cub I went on my first camp, the Centenary camp in Crawfordsburn Scout centre and in 2013 I applied as a participant to go to the 23rd World Scout Jamboree. I will never forget my excitement and delight when I read my acceptance letter and found I was going to be a member of Unit 62. The two years spent being part of this unique team of 40 has been my greatest memory of Scouts. The numerous training weekends and fundraising activities cumulated in July 2015 when I travelled to Japan to go the World Scout Jamboree. This was certainly an experience which will be forgotten. On return from this adventure I applied for Nijam 2017 and I haven’t looked back since.
Sawel Sub Camp Assistant - Austin Patterson
In 1994 I was the age to join 1st Killymurris squirrels unit moving up through beavers, cubs and scouts. Having won lots of trophies and completing many different badges but unfortunately I left scouts before I was explorer age in 2006 Re-joining Killymurris scout group in 2010 as a leader of our scout/explorer unit. Since then I have had the great opportunities, in July 2011 I successfully completed the explorer belt in Poland as part of a 33 explorers team, 26 from Scotland seven explorers from Killymurris. In 2012 we had a joint scout camp in Czech Republic with 1st Cullybackey; this was an activity camp which included an overnight canoeing, one day bike ride and much more. April 2013 I had the great honour and privilege of going to Windsor castle and being awarded my queen scout award. August our scouts attended NIJam 2013. September 2014 I was part of the nine scout leaders that trekked to base camp Everest. July 2015 three of our explorers and I went to the KISC international rover week in Switzerland. Since re-joining scouts I never would’ve imagined that I’ve done all these things
Binevenagh Sub Camp
Binevenagh Sub Camp Leader - Richard Morrow
I've been in Scouts my entire life and for a short while it felt like the family business as my four brothers and my mother were all involved. Up until very recently I have been a 2nd Ards man through and through but in 2014 I took over as Explorer Leader for Movilla Explorers. Through Scouting I have had the chance to travel the world far and wide including Kandersteg International Scout Centre in 2011, Belgium to complete the Explorer Belt and most recently going to the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan as an assistant unit leader for the only UK from Northern Ireland. The Jamboree was one of the biggest highlights of my Scouting career to date and it was truly a privilege to get to work in such a fantastic team of leaders with 36 wonderful young people. I look forward to overcoming the challenges and opportunities which will be met as a subcamp chief at NiJam - it'll be great to be part of an international adventure for young people which is on our doorstep. The goal for NiJam is to make Binevenagh the loudest and potentially wackiest subcamp on site - #boomboombinevenagh

Binevenagh Sub Camp Assistant - Stuart Osborne
I've been involved in scouts since a young age - starting in squirrels and moving my way up through the sections. I have been a member of 1st Killymurris, a group outside of Ballymena my whole life. After getting to attend the World Scout Jamboree in Sweden 2011, I had the opportunity to volunteer with the cub section as a young leader. In 2015 I was IST at the World Scout Jamboree in Japan which was a phenomenal experience. Since starting university and living in Belfast during the year I have joined 68th Belfast (on the aptly named Osborne Park) as a Scout Leader. In 2016 I will be doing my explorer belt in France. With NiJam2013 being a fantastic experience as work and play staff I decided to become involved with NiJam2017!
Guillon Sub Camp
Guillon Sub Camp Leader - Jason Morrow
My name is Jason Morrow, and I am 27 years old. I have been involved in scouts since I was 6 years old, and after reaching the dizzying heights of sixer in cubs, and patrol leader in scouts I knew I wanted to become a fully fledged leader. I have been a leader since 18, both with my home troop of 2nd Ards (where I currently hold the role of Scout Leader), as well as 2nd Penrith (the troop I joined while at university). I have been to numerous local, national and International camps including the World Scout Jamboree in 2007, the Irish Jamboree in 2008 and several Blair Atholl Jamborettes. I also volunteered at Kandersteg International Scout Centre as a Pinkie during the summer of 2009. Furthermore, I also took the Scout group from Penrith on a trip to Switzerland in 2011. I hold both my Queen Scout Award, and my Explorer Belt. I can do various circus skills including juggling and diabolo, and on more than one occasion have been mistaken for Sean Connery. I am really looking forward to being the Subcamp leader of Slieve Gullion, and sharing my ideas (I am very much an ideas man) with the rest of the team. Hopefully we will make NIJam 2017 a memorable and enjoyable experience for the young people.
Guillon Sub Camp Assistant - Conor Daniel
I have been in the scouting organization from the age of 7 when I joined 2nd Bangor Abbey Beavers. I progressed through Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts. I attended a weekend assessment course to become a young leader. I successfully completed this and now I am a young leader with 2nd Bangor Scouts. I was recently presented with a Commissioners Commendation Award. In 2013 I attended a weekend selection event at Crawfordsburn Scout Centre for The 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan 2015. I was very pleased and excited to be selected to attend the Jamboree. After a 2 year training program we headed to Japan. It was amazing to meet so many people from around the world. I really enjoyed my stay with my Home Hospitality family. The whole Jamboree experience from start to finish was truly amazing and unforgettable. I intend to stay in scouts for years to come and hopefully attend another jamboree as a leader. I hope that the scouts that are attending NIjam 2017 have an experience that is as unforgettable as the experience I had in Japan.
Guillon Sub Camp Assistant - Rhiannon Hill

Explorer Sub Camp
Sub Camp Leader - Kieran McEvoy
I have been a scout leader for nearly three decades and have enjoyed every minute of it. I currently run Bangor East Explorers with a great team of leaders including my wife Gillian and forty Explorers. I am also District Explorer Scout Commissioner for North Down District and support all the sections of 12th Bangor Scout Group with my two sons in Beavers and Cubs. Most summers I take our group to an International Jamboree in the UK so am delighted to be able to use the knowledge from all these camp to hopefully create a fantastic Explorers Sub Camp at NIjam 2017. I have been a Sub Camp Leader at over ten TOE Camps. Roll on NIjam 2017!
